Business Evaluation in Tough Times

December 17th, 2009 by admin

If you are in business and have not evaluated where you are now and where you are headed, now is the time to do so. Many business owners are trying so hard to keep going that they forget to stop and do some evaluation to see if they are doing the right things so that they can remain profitable.

In the day and age in which we operate, customers are hard to find. And, they are more fickle than ever because they have so many choices from which they can choose. Therefore, you have to be the absolute best that you can be when you first get in touch with them. Here are some principles that will help you accomplish this task.

Easy to Reach

Are you making it as easy as you can to be reached? Do you have a toll-free number that rings into your business and has an associated PBX system to handle callers? If not, you need one. Do you have plenty of Internet-based methods with which potential clients can find and reach you with? You should have at a minimum a website, main email inbox, and all of your contact information displayed there in large type.

Also, do not forget to add social networking efforts to help you gain clients. You should consider having these too: a Facebook.com account, Twitter.com account, and Linkedin.com account. If you do not know how to use these, then find out. There are plenty of resources that can help you.

Rapid Response

Once you have notification that someone is trying to reach you to inquire about your business, do you respond immediately? If not, then keep in mind that these prospects will not wait long until they contact a competitor. Get back with them as soon as you possibly can so that you will not miss a chance to gain a new customer.

Fail-proof Follow-up

Once you do make that initial contact, how are you in following up to find out if they are ready to make a purchase? Sometimes it takes more than one or two contacts to gain a customer. Really, they are testing you to see how interested in your business they are.

Protect Your Business

Consider adding a GPS tracking device to your most expensive assets to protect it in the event of it being stolen. These devices will help you locate your property and have it returned almost immediately. This is one principle of evaluation that is worth money, because you can save money on business and vehicle insurance by using these devices.

Take time to evaluate your business today. It might be just what you need to be profitable in a very tough time.
